Script
I chose the song Sweater Weather by The Neighbourhood. I picked the song because the lyrics can be
interpreted in many way, so in order to make the video work alongside the song,
I needed something simple, something that could also be interpreted in many
ways.
These are some of the lyrics, the key parts are highlighted
and my idea presented alongside. For example the lyric that motivated me to
challenge the conventions of music videos were “One love, two mouths” which
spiked the idea of a same sex couple. Another lyric was “ ‘Cause it’s too cold
for you here and now” I decided to use this to show the bad environment that a
couple sometimes has to go through but how they protect each other
My original idea was a couple, as the lyrics suggest that
the song is about a couple and after further research I discovered that many
other people interpreted it this way as well. After listening to the song and
brainstorming ideas, I established two narratives and decided to link them
together.
The mind map shows the
way the running narrative will work and how the ideas around the homosexual
couple.
A general overview of the narrative is that: we have a
couple, one of them goes for a run, this creates the simple start and then I’m
going to create a montage of shots of what the couple had to go through in
order to get to the happy point they are at now. In the process of this that
the partner realises he gets lost, this is where I’m linking the literal
‘Sweater’ into the narrative instead of just metaphorically. The partner then
discovers their way back to their house.
I established general costs of the productions, leading to a
total of £1,810.
The locations I established were the running lanes and
surrounding villages. There will be 2 actors and myself and another being crew.
The audience will share the same qualities as the target
audience for the band itself which is demonstrated here. The unique selling
point is that the couple is homosexual, which is challenging the typical
conventions.
